Two wonderful words to me! I have been practice sketching things that I see ,of course old churches pop out to me. Here are two churches that I’ve done.
Possum Trot Church, built in 1850 with scripture verses written on the inside walls because of a shortage of bibles.
Then the Summertown Methodist church built in 1881 and was in active use until 1995 even though there were no bathrooms or air conditioners.
And I’m still working on old vintage scraps. I had cut a stack of 3 inch blocks out not sure what I was going to do with them until I came across this block photo. Perfect for all my little scraps that I could get triangles cut out of . I did change it up a little.
Here are some of my finished blocks..
I almost gave up on making these for the blocks that have the muslin strip with the triangles corners were not matching up right for nice points, and I was ripping out way too much for my impatient nature.
I had to either come up with a fix or ditch the pattern…. here’s how I fixed it.
I marked the corner lines by butting the block up to the corner lines on the paper then the ruler to the straight line ,marked with a pencil… and it works like a charm.
Now I’m much happier sewing.๐
These are 1930’s to 1950’s fabrics
Have a great week !
Love your scrappy quilt, great tip too thanks!

It’s very neat, the way the muslin makes that grid pattern amid all the fun prints! And your points look so perfect now! Your drawings are looking good–it’s been such fun to watch you develop. And I love the story about the bible verses on the church walls!

Isnโt that grid neat, thatโs is what caught my attention. It breaks up the busy prints just enough to make them charming. Thank you for the kind comment.. I have a problem of seeing all the bloopers, …perfection without practice is so lazy.๐ thatโs the spirit of being creative that I admire.

That is a great fix for your quilt. It is amazing that old churches don’t have restrooms. I was recently in a very large old church and the facilities were across a court yard and in another building. I guess people had better bladders back in the day.

Oh , that gave one a chance to stretch the legs.๐ I remember liking the break from that hard bench by walking out back to the outhouse, then washing your hands not far by with an old pump handle that squeaked as it pumped up the water.

Your drawing is coming along so nicely Deb, it is wonderful how you chose something totally new and have applied yourself. The growth is quite evident! Those quilt blocks are so perfect for the vintage fabric, it just seems at home. Great fix to getting those points the way you want them. Graph paper is so useful!
I remember the outhouse at our church in my hometown. Silly me, at my own house too! We got our bathroom when I was 4; it had a bathtub too, we were quite impressed! No more baths in the kitchen sink!

Thank you, Kathy! It is a journey,Iโve found out that Iโm still impatient wanting perfection without hard work. ๐ฑ The discipline is good for me. Graph paper is great to have around! We always had plumbing in our home but not at the church ,also we have an chicken farm just down the road that we had to go pick up eggs. It was a time consuming job ,so there was an out house to use . In summer it stank,in winter you froze your tail …. there was no lingering in that place long!๐

I do like your scrappy block. The drawings are so wonderful. I admire anyone who can draw something that looks like what it is. I love the story about the Bible verses written on the walls. Where there’s a will, there’s a way, and that’s not a solution I’ve heard of before. =)

Takes hard times to come up with that solution. Thank you , it keeps me motivated to keep trying with all the encouragement I get from my blogging friends.
