I want to thank each of you who sent their love and sympathy on my last post, if truly meant a lot!
Papa’s death was a shock to all of us as he was a very active 80 year old . Papa’s death was treated as a crime site being a fire was involved,he was burning some trash in a bin when some tar on the outside of the bin caught fire lighting the grass around it. He was trying to move a small trailer away from the fire, when he went down on his knees, coughed than there was no more respondence. A grandson who was there called 911 right away, but till they got there the fire was pretty much out except for the front of papas shirt where he had put the lighter to light the fire in his pocket. Papa was burnt bad enough on the face that there was no viewing of his body, however the undertaker made it possible for the family to view a hand which gave closure to the lot of us.
The autopsy reported was there was no smoke in the lungs , it was stated as a medical heart disease as the clause of death. That ,my friends ,was a real relief to me to know he was gone before the fire ever hit him!
While parting of a loved one is hard,it was wonderful to be loved and have memories of a wonderful father in law.
Then there is freshness of spring to value….
And then the enjoyment of having a sweet tempered Rottweiler around again. Caroline didn’t want her picture taken.😄
The fun of sewing for others….need to finish binding them yet though.
The anticipation of watching this cocoon hatch…
Also valuing the time spent with hubby in a short get away in the blue ridge mountains.
Moments that make precious memories are what make my life full of value.
I’m so sorry! Losing a family member suddenly like that is so difficult.
Spring is such a wonderful season – and your pictures are beautiful proof that it is finally spring.

So sorry , look after yourself and your family, times like this do make you appreciate life all the more and the fresh signs of spring just seem to emphasize that x

Your post beautifully reminds of us the cycle of life and death, and life. And you’re mind us to cherish what we have. I am awfully relieved to hear that your father-in-law was spared a worse death–that would’ve been so hard on all of you, thinking about that. And I don’t know if it’s appropriate to say this, but the grave is beautiful . . . (and the dog is super sweet!)

Caroline is a sweet dog ,she was rehomed because previous owner could no longer care for her properly, I was delighted to take over for her!The grave was beautiful, the family and friends buried Papa … I didn’t help with the digging or covering up,but the laying down of roses is a special part to me.

Beautiful words and pictures Deb! Such a blessing to know he didn’t suffer and now he is with Jesus. The photos illustrate the full circle of life, and the promise of each spring. That pup! She is giving you the stink eye!!

I’m so sorry for your family’s loss. I’m glad to hear that his heart went first and he didn’t suffer from the fire – one small blessing in a heap of sorrow.
Thinking of you!

Thank you! Yes, that’s truly a blessing to know there was no suffering. While it was a shock to have him go so quickly ,I would rather have it this way then to watch him slowly lose his active self or his mind grow cloudy.

So sorry I missed this post., but glad that he went so quickly, he looked a lovely man and from what you say he certainly was. When my young sister in law died, we could only see her hand, but as you say it it did help. When I saw your flowers they reminded me of my dad, as he died on the first day of spring last year and it was nearly a year ago, so they were very special to me. On a lighter note, I just love Caroline, the look on her face is precious, she is very lucky to have you as her new mum 🙂

Spring reminds me of my dad, too. He gave me a large amaryllis bulb the last Christmas he was with us,it is now 13 years later, multiplied into many bulbs, and they are starting to form buds

What a lovely thing to have as a keepsake. Do you keep yours in a pot or in the ground. I can never keep them to the following year.

I can plant them in the ground here and leave them there. The ground doesn’t freeze hard enough to hurt them.

I have one that I think I will test in the ground and see what happens 🙂

And yes.. I mustn’t forget Caroline.. she is one fantastic dog,I feel lucky to have found her. Besides that ,she has taken care of the bobcats that like trying to catch a chicken of mine. Silly dog sleeps out in the barn in the straw close to the chickens, even though she could sleep up on the porch in a lovely dog house with a soft pillow in it.🤷🏻♀️

She does sound a real sweetie, a tough one to see of bobcats I should think. We had a dog that use to sleep with our racing pigeons, to keep the cats away, he just thought it was his job….not one got lost to a cat. So she is doing a grand job 🙂

When you first said he had passed I assumed the usual demise that happens when we get old. This was simply chilling.
I’m glad for you and your family that the medical investigators were able to determine it was his heart and that he never felt a thing.
Your Papa was a very handsome man.

Thank you! I wasn’t sure what to write that first time as I didn’t know just what had happen. It was chilling until we knew for sure what had happened.
