Nov. 10…. Hand quilt along update……

A warm welcome to Bella, and Daisy ,so glad you joined us and looking forward to seeing your projects. Connie ,delighted to have you on the list again.๐Ÿ˜Š

I had these old blocks setting in the sewing closet for awhile just waiting for me to do something with them. Letโ€™s take a look at these little blocks..

As you can see the blocks were not all the same size,so I first trimmed them to 4โ€

Some of the seams were off very much so, so I redid those. I am beginning to think that some were beginners block…. so was it a young one or an adult??

The stitching on some of the blocks definitely showed signs of someone learning….

Some were done by machine… wonder if it was a treadle like my great Grammy had ,or an older hand crank machine?
Then some were done by a more experienced hand, these blocks will not tear at the seams any to soon! They were first sewn to together then press open with a whipped stitch on top . Very neatly done.
Then there were blocks that were marked with a stitched H…did it mean block placement or for a certain pattern that were left overs?
There are still many questions one can ask but this I know that these lovely old โ€œantiqueโ€ blocks are at least 110 years old, and they needed to be put into a quilt with no added new fabric, and it will make a wonderful piece of history in my house whether hanging on a wall, or draped in an old doll cradle…. which by the way ,I tell my family Iโ€™m in need of but havenโ€™t got on yet!๐Ÿ˜
I think I will quilt this in a Baptist style pattern, for I will use a pen that the markings disappear rather quickly ,and mark as I go. Like the old log cabin that Iโ€™m working on now,so the light hand washing they get will be easy to do .
Now time for update on the old log cabin…
I had three of the blocks to one row done, I was able to finish the other three and roll ,working on the first block in that row.
Iโ€™m now half way finished!๐Ÿ’ƒ
Rolled row
The block that Iโ€™m working on .
Please check out the others in the handquilt along…..

The Tristan Quilt, sometimes called the Tristan and Isolde Quilt or the Guicciardini Quilt, is one of the earliest surviving quilts in the world.Depicting scenes from the story of Tristan and Isolde, an influential romance and tragedy, it was made in Sicily during the second half of the 14th century.

Sept. 29… Hand quilt along update….

Quiltโ€ is derived from the Latin word culcita, which means โ€œstuffed sack.โ€

And…

The earliest depiction of quilting was discovered in Egypt; it was an ivory figurine of a pharaoh wearing quilted clothing, ca. 3400 BC

Well they say it’s fall time but I’m not really ready to believe that yet as it is still very much like summer here! And dry, we are in what I’ve just learned a flash drought.

So with this flash drought ,I have no grass to cut,or weed whacking to do, it’s been in the upper 90’s to 100’s so I decided to keep my nose inside as much as possible.

Welcome back quilting!๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Here’s where I was …. working in the two center blocks

Finished those two blocks, and quilted the last two ,along with the border.

Closer look at the quilting

Ready for another row of blocks. There’s a little bit of looseness in the blocks but the quilting seems to handle it okay.

That’s it for me this around.๐Ÿ˜Š

Sept.8 … Hand quilt along update…

Dorian was big on the news around here last weekend as we wondered how it was going to made land fall but here in the little town of Midville there was only storm clouds that were unique, wind was pleasant to work in a warm day, with only a few rain drops. Made a lovely mowing day.

So where am I on the log cabin quilt? Same place..๐Ÿ™ˆ I only quilted a little row not even big enough to photo.

So what have I been doing… relief quilts. There’s a real need for them ,so I step up to the plate…I was able to get three almost finished ,only binding left to do,with four more tops ready to knot. Here’s the three ready for binding. The scrappy log cabin ..the blocks I had on hand just needed to be sewn together.

Until next time…happy sewing.๐Ÿ˜Š

Aug. 18 …..Hand quilt along update….

Patchwork Quilt

Our family’s like a patchwork quilt,
With kindness gently sewn;
Each piece is an original,
With beauty of its own.
With threads of warmth and happiness,
It’s tightly stitched together
To last in love throughout the years,
Our family is forever.

It is time to do a little show and tell again, can you believe it!

Here’s where I was last update… working on the last block of the first row.

Finished this block ,rolled the quilt continued …quilting on the two blocks above this one ….

Now I’m working on the middle two blocks of this row.

Until next update ,stay cool.

And peek in on what the others are doing!

July 7…. Hand quilt along update….

“Take your needle, my child, and work at your pattern–it will come out a rose by and by. Life is like that…one stitch at a time, taken patiently.” – Oliver Wendell Holmes

I didn’t get very far at all on the old log cabin, was having too much fun with grandchildren ,and with their parents as well! The last two weeks went by way tooooo…fast!

Children and summertime warm this Mom mom’s heart!

I must say my recliner feels good tonight though, my but little people have lots of energy!๐Ÿ˜

I only got a little over half a block done.

June 16 …Hand quilt along update…..

Happy Father’s Day……It is hard to believe that it has been 13 years since my dad has passed away, and 3 months since Papa Bear has passed ! They both are truly missed.

Now time for the update. ๐Ÿ˜Š

There are six blocks across the quilt with six rows from top to bottom giving a total of 36 blocks to do along with the border. I have finished four of the blocks ,working on number 5. Here I was last time…..

Here is where I am now…

I’m working where the thread is. Here is a crude drawing of how it is to be quilted.

The backing is a piece that I have had for awhile ,it is from Moda fabric .

Happy quilting folks until next time!
