Nov.1..Hand quilt along update..

A prayer request for Leona .. she’s not been feeling well for about a week.. I can’t seem to put my finger on what is wrong.. so if she’s not feeling better in a few days than to the Docs we go…. which always stresses her out.

Now for the update. I was able to work on the old quilt a little more this week, and to sew on a quilt top.

Here is where I was last time. Working at the right end of the quilt.

I was able to finish the row . I have it rolled and ready to start back, working from left to right .
The finished part is from the bottom of the quilt roll to the top of the white printed blocks.

The top that I’ve been working on is the star quilt using 50 through 70’s fabric scraps .

I’m using all scraps no yardage except for the red paisley border. I’m happy to have them scraps into a quilt top instead of a drawer!

Oct.11…Hand quilt along update

Even though the sewing machine was invented in 1790, hand-quilting was still more popular for the next 100 years.

Weather is very pleasant here, for which I’m thankful for July through the middle of September arent my favorite months.

I didn’t work on my quilt as much as last time .. honestly I always have hopes of doing more than before … often that doesn’t happen. One thing nice about quilting it waits very patiently.

Here’s where I left off last time…

Just a little on the end to finish then ready to roll

It’s rolled and just an bit worked on.

I also did up a stack of papers to work on my many scraps again this fall and winter.
The log cabin block uses up lots of scraps, and in the best way.. at least I think so.😀

I have two boxes full of scraps that I will be working on.

That’s it for me. Happy quilting until next time.

Oct.1 …. just a little random post….

It has been awhile since I have done a this and that post.

First some photos from the camp site. We have lovely days with perfect temps.

There was a black duck and a hornets nest that I tried to capture but it was a little rough out there, and the duck wasn’t into having a photo taken.

Hubby made himself some grilling racks that he was very happy with… and I was even happier for he did most of the cooking. …Even made pepper poppers .😋
Then my granddaughters brighten my days with beautiful smiles or a story.
Of course , I’ve been sewing …

There a ten knotted quilts ready to go to CAM this week. It is nice to have that off my list.

Here they are waiting for the binding to be sewn,Which took me three days to do.
Now it’s time to clean up the house.🤓

Sept.20.. Hand quilt along update….

No quote or history tidbit this time . The weather has cooled down to the 70’s this week so we are at the camp site cleaning up fallen limbs ,weeds and whatever else needs attention, also enjoying the lake ,and fire with marshmallows in the evening.

I was able to get more done this time on the old quilt. The old back of mine decided to act up again, that meant ice pack treatments . I quilted while putting ice on the back which kept me from any leaning forward.

Where I was last time…

I was only able to make about an eight inch row from left to right but I almost did the hold length. Just a little more to do at the right end, then I’ll be ready to roll the top again.
Here’s a close up of the white block design.
That’s it for me this round!🙂

Ps… I’m going to try to get to each one’s post.. but it might be a few days…

Aug.9 Hand quilt along update

Stars are probably the most common motif used on quilts. Homesteaders traveling West used the stars for guidance; and they looked upon stars as religious symbols of their faith in God.

There are hundreds of star patterns. Some quilts have just one large radiating star, often called the Star of Bethlehem or Blazing Star, while in other quilts, dozens of smaller stars are used. The simplest and most popular star pattern is an eight-pointed star.

A star pattern is not an easy design to cut or sew. Precision is extremely important as any inaccuracy in cutting or piec-ing is multiplied as pieces are added. If poorly pieced, the quilt will not lie flat when finished. An intricate star pattern was one way for a woman to show her needlework skills. Taken from… National Park service.

I have lots of scraps left of vintage fabric that I want to use up. I came across a photo of this quilt. I really liked the scrappy stars ,but I didn’t have enough plain vintage fabric .

I kept searching ,find this idea from Missouri star ,and fell in love with it.

I probably cheat and do it the easy way though. Like this…
Now to show you the little I quilted on this top..
Not much but more than I thought I was going to get done. Hoping to have more time now that l have helped LouAnn get things together for teaching another year in VA. It was fun though helping her and adding to her ideas.

July 26… Hand Quilt along Update

I know, I know .. I’m a week late… I’m also have an emptier pantry shelf.

We had company from Thursday of last week to Monday of this week ,then we had company all day yesterday. Yesterday’s company was easy as it was only two ,my niece and her husband. The weekend company had me feeding up to twenty people for quite a few meals. It was a fun time though visiting with family and friends.

So did I quilt…. very little! I was hoping I could get the top that I worked on the hardest last time almost finished, sad to say that didn’t happen. I did manage three fans, just like the ones in the marked back.

Here’s a peek at a how the children.. big and small enjoyed Bobo and Skittles.

June 28… Hand quilt along update

🌺 A family stitched together with love seldom unravels.🌾

It’s update time! And I did get to take time with my needle and thimble, felt wonderful!

I didnt get much done on this top except for finishing the row and turning it.

What I worked on was this old piece ,is it my quilt that I use as a take along for its in the lap hoop.”
Hubby and boys went to Alabama to a stone quarry to get certified to be a advanced open water diver. I went along just for a little time by myself.
I love taking care of Leona ,but it is nice to get a little break.
I got just four full blocks ,and four half blocks until I’m finished. Here’s some photos.

That’s it’s for me this around.

April,17 Hand quilt along update

A picture that Leona colored with her nose on her iPad. 😍
I didn’t get much done on the quilt this round again, and no, it has nothing to do with a burned thumb. That has healed nicely,it’s just that there’s lots of summer work . I’m enjoying the outdoors work as the days have been really nice.
Here’s where I was last round….
And here’s where I’m today.
Closer to the end of this row… one more white block and little blocks surrounding it.

April,26…. Hand quilt along update.

My quilting came to an abrupt holt the first part of this week ,when the hot strawberry jam I was making missed the canning jar, running down over my thumb. The top part of my thumb now has a nice sore on top.😏 I probably could quilt if I put a bandage on it ,but the thought of removing it after quilting just puts that thought on hold. So I did sewing into stead… however I will quickly show what I did get done on the old girl.
Even with the extra gathers,it still looks very nice… cozy is written all over this quilt.
I’m half way down the length of the quilt, working from left to right.

Now for the sewing.. I have one more row to put on this quilt top then it will be ready to knot….

And some scrappy blocks .. about thirty … are ready to be put together.
A big Welcome to Monica! Looking forward to getting to know you and seeing your creative side!😊

Apr.5 Hand quilt along….

Just a quick peek into my quilt project,I won’t keep you long.. well, to be honest… I’m camping and short on time. There’s so much more exciting things then social media to do today. I’ll catch up tomorrow with you quilting folks .

My new project…..

This top has some issues as you can see. A lot of the white blocks are rather gathered. I could have taken them out ,cut them down to right size, somehow I felt like this was someone hard work sewn into this top. I think with a heavier quilting pattern some of the gathers with be taken up. I love it the way it is , so if it is still very imperfect that is fine by me.
Some more photos of the makings and I did start at the corner.
Once again there will be no time frame as to when it will be finished.

And the border
The old girl is ready to be worked on.
Her age… a good 120 years. She is definitely titled to a few wrinkled!😃
