There’s not to much to update this time,as I didn’t get a whole lot of quilting in these last few weeks. I was hoping to finish the double wedding ring.. that didn’t happen..why not? Well maybe this picture will explain what I have been doing while the weather is cooler.
We just have to smoke the bacon and hams yet , while I enjoy butchering ,it is a very good feeling when the last kettle is washed and put away until the next time. We did three nice size hogs this round.
While back to the update… I have three more blocks to finish on the double wedding ring.
The Fire Island Hosta really got no attention. Maybe a better progress report next time.
You know when ladies get together to quilt there was always lots of gossip,story telling or sharing a new idea…. well I happen to come across an old superstition about pins.
See a pin and pick it up ,And all the day you’ll have good luck..
See a pin and let it lie,and luck will surely pass you by.
And that set me to thinking.. I wonder if you ladies grew up with an old superstition? Please post a comment if you do I’d love to hear it. If there’s enough I post them on next update for all to enjoy.

I have to admit when I first clicked on your post and saw the tops of the hanging pigs, I almost passed on looking, but I did 🙂 3 more blocks left – fabulous almost there ~ yippee! here’s one for you ‘step on a crack, break your mothers back’ I can remember walking on the sidewalks and avoiding every crack

Sorry! Didn’t mean to gross you out! Glad you kept going. Oh yes, I remember that one ,I too used to do that until my mom got a little impatient with all my hopping around while walking down the street to shop.

This post brings back wonderful memories of butchering when I was a child. It was hard work, but I miss it.

It’s fun when everyone works together,then all share in eating some freshly fried up sausage before cleaning up .

Yum! Real bacon!!!! Next time you’ll get more done, butchering has to be a HUGE project, so well done that finish! 🙂

I try not to be superstitious but I’ll admit that, when I spill salt, I automatically throw a pinch over my shoulder, to ward off and luck! I’m surprised you’re that close to finishing the wedding ring quilt–you’re Super Quilter!

Never heard that one. I never believed in superstitions but I do wonder how they ever came to be.. just like see a pin on the floor , of course picking it up is the sensible thing to do so you don’t step on it. Thank you! Quilting is my evening relaxer.

My Mom always said “See a penny pick it up, all the day you’ll have good luck…”and as to pins she said “Bonnie you have such sharp eyes…can you find any pins on the floor?” and I’d crawl around…what a smart Mom as I grew up thinking I had a sharp eye! Bacon yum!

If we see any money on the ground, we have to pick it up and give it away for good luck, peacock feathers are bad luck to bring in to the house, never walk under a ladder, and also Lilac is bad luck to bring into the house, better stop now 🙂 Quilt looks lovely 🙂

My Grandfather was very superstitious. He would never allow us kids to sit in his wheel chair or rock a rocking chair with no one in it. Sitting in the wheel chair would bring us bad fortune as we would end up needing one and rocking the rocking chair would invite a ghost to sit in it.
As to pins, well, I’ll share this: If you make a quilt using straight pins, be sure to find them all! I was never so shocked as be the recipient of a lovely quilt from church (home with broken foot in cast). I had used it for several days, then one evening I put it over my legs, smoothed it out, and OH MY I found the lost pin! 😉
On butchering – I think you very brave to take on such a large task! I do my own chickens each summer and find it daunting, but worthwhile. However, I don’t think I would last for one hog, much less three. And, as others have said, bring on the bacon!

I loved the one about the rocking chair.. would have probably tried it to see if it would happen.😄 I thing I don’t like about butchering is the stack of greasy large containers… l agree about the bacon!

Our family used to live on a chicken farm – I thought that was messy! I can’t even imagine a whole hog! Love your quilting!
