July 29….. vintage top and a grateful heart

I was able to finished putting the old scrap fabrics into a top. I like the way the simple pattern gives an added feel of vintage to the fabrics.

It is raining very hard out side so picture taking was done on my small sewing room floor,so the quilting frame casts a shadow on the top. Better pictures later.πŸ™‚

I have been sewing on some scrappy blocks ,not sure how I will arrange them for a quilt top for the church sewing ladies. The scrappy blocks I sewed unto some real thin fabric ,it will make for a sturdier top when knotted.

Also got a few more rings done for my double wedding ring quilt . I’m over half way done on piecing-this top together. It is full of many different vintage scraps from the late twenties to the early forties. The top when finished will have 8 rows across and nine down so it will fit our queen size bed nicely when finished.

And now for the grateful heart…….

That white van that is in the ditch is the van my son drives for work,as he does the service work for our door business. A fella ran a red light and hit the back end of the van rolling it to its side then sliding on its side down the road.

So with grateful heart I thank God for his guardian angels over my son last Tuesday, for other than a very stiff neck and sore shoulder ,he is just fine.

The dark spot was the point of impact.

Have a great week!

  1. The pictures of the van and the point of impact makes one realize just how lucky your son was that the accident didn’t cause any serious injuries!
That setting for the old scrap fabrics is perfect, but your double wedding ring steals the show – it is beautiful! What fun it must be to look at all the fabrics you’ve used in it.

  2. Thank you Lord! Do make sure your son doesn’t tough it out if his neck isn’t completely OK in a few weeks. DH was in a crash as an 18 year old and toughed it out…by the time he was 30 and could no longer deal with it, the ortho said he had the neck of an 85 year old man. 😳
The first quilt is quite a save from that pile of smelly fabric!πŸŽ‰πŸ‘ It is a wonder, and I agree the simple pattern really suits it. Your double wedding ring diamonds are exquisite, so beautifully matched! What a lovely new/vintage piece this will be!

  3. So glad your son is safe, we have them shot the lights over here, so often we have seen or been in near misses, not nice at all. On a lighter note, both quilts are beautiful, each in their own way πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you,Lynne! car accidents have been on the increase because of people being on cell phones and not being alert to what is happening around them. Our State has now passed a law ,no phone in hand while driving, hope it cuts down on careless driving. It should …the fine is $1,000 for first misdemeanor,$2,000 and license suspended on 2nd misdemeanor.

      1. Yes we are bringing in a new law, anyone caught with a phone will loose their license for three months, straight away…..hands free is still ok, although I can’t use it, can’t do both at the same time πŸ™‚

  4. Wow–you have every reason to be grateful–the outcome of that crash could’ve been so much worse! Do make sure your son goes back to the doctor if he stays creaky and stuff.

Your quilts are so great. You really have a way with scarps and seem to know just how to make the most of them. I am especially in love with the double wedding ring–just wonderful, Deb!

    1. Thank you,Kerry! I ,too love that double wedding ring ..I’m already thinking of how I’m going to quilt it. I will keep tabs on that shoulder of his! Although it is getting better, as is the bruising.

  5. Hello. Those ring quilts are known in Finland also. Rings bring to my mind Olympic rings. You told awesome story. I am glad that Your son is okay.

I believe in guardian Angels. They have helped my wife and me many times, even saved our lives, but these my stories are not to be told here but face to face.

    Have a wonderful day!
